About Taifa Care

Taifa Care - Affordable, Accessible, and Quality Healthcare for Every Kenyan.

Taifa Care, Kenya’s universal health coverage (UHC) program, is meant to transform access to healthcare by ensuring that every Kenyan, regardless of income or location, can receive quality medical services at no extra expense, by covering outpatient, inpatient, maternal, child, and critical care services through the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Launched in 2024  by the Government of Kenya, Taifa Care is administered by the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Our Story So Far

A healthy Kenya, where quality healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

Founded as part of Kenya’s healthcare reform journey, and launched in October 2024, Taifa Care has represented a new era in equitable healthcare since. It is managed by the Social Health Authority (SHA), which replaced the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).
